Another Chicago restaurant is opening its first location in northwest Indiana this week.
S&T provisions in Chicago’s South Side Mount Greenwood neighborhood will open this Saturday at 101 W. Joliet St. in the historic courthouse plaza in downtown Crown Point. It occupies part of the old antique shopping center in Old Town Square which is being redeveloped.
The longtime pizzeria and Italian grocery store bills itself as the “home of the original pizza setup.” It started 62 years ago as a wholesaler supplying South Side pizzerias, but moved on to supplying pizza ingredients that customers could take home and cook themselves for 15 to 20 minutes at 400 degrees. .
The fourth-generation family business sells three full-size pizzas for $25 as well as packages of 10 individual cheese pizzas. It has house sauce, sausages and cheese sourced from Wisconsin.
It also offers other Italian dishes to take away, including Italian sausages, meatballs, pasta and bread.
S&T Provisions has expanded to four locations, including one it opened in the southern suburbs of Frankfurt earlier this year. It also ships its ready-made pizza kits nationwide to anyone nostalgic for a Chicago-style pie.
S&T Too will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.
