Fleming Steakhouse & Wine Bar Review

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar is a popular national steakhouse chain. There are currently two locations in Austin, two of a total of 64 as of September 2022. The chain was founded by Paul Fleming in Newport Beach, California in 1998. Flemings is also known for helping to establish PF Chang’s China Bistro, another popular American restaurant chain. You can expect to be served traditional steakhouse fare at Fleming’s.

Since Fleming’s is a chain, most of their restaurant interiors look vaguely similar, highlighted by their dim lighting, red-accented decor, and a dizzying array of tables for four covered in white tablecloths.

Fleming’s Menu

The menu is divided into 8 different food sections: starters, burgers and sandwiches, market salads, classic cuts, specialty cuts, beyond steaks, sides and desserts. They also offer a great selection of alcoholic beverages, with both red and white wines.

Entries are quite limited. There are two options here, the prosciutto burrata and the crab cakes. The sandwiches include two different burgers, a filet mignon sandwich and a chickpea and eggplant sandwich. What stood out to me the most was the option of a dry aged ribeye. Besides the steaks, Fleming’s offers Norwegian salmon fillets, lobster and even a miso-glazed Chilean sea bass, which is colorfully pale in all the right ways with a delicate soft brown touch on both sides. Speaking of sides, there are plenty to choose from. Three very different and very interesting mashed potatoes, a lobster mac and cheese, creamed spinach, Brussels sprouts and sautéed mushrooms, and there’s more where that came from.

Fleming’s also offers a seasonal menu. Right now it’s ‘Autumn Filets’ which includes three different filet mignon plates, one with bbq shrimp, another like a deconstructed wellington, and the last with a port and blackberry demi-glace. Roasted portobello and cauliflower steak completes the fall selection, served with crispy potato marrow, chimichurri and asparagus.

A children’s menu is available on request. There are children’s tenderloins, chicken tenderloins, mac and cheese, and a tenderloin sandwich.

The desserts are fruity and rich. Cream cheese layered carrot cakes and key lime pie jump out at me. Gooey Chocolate Butter Cake is a real chocolate lover’s fantasy. It melts into the plate, sprinkled with a brittle honeycomb.

Location + opening and closing hours

There are two Fleming’s Steakhouses in Austin. One is located at The Domain in North Austin. The other is located in downtown Austin, near Southern Congress, especially East 2nd Street. Both are open for dinner from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, Fleming’s is open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The sidewalk is available from 12 p.m. every day. Delivery is also available from 12pm, but they stop delivering at 8.30pm on Sundays and 9.30pm the rest of the week.

Fleming’s booking process

Reserving a table at Fleming is simple. Navigate to their website, select reservations and enter your preferred time and day. Fleming’s will then show you tables available at or around that time, and they’ll even show similar times at other nearby locations and on different days but at similar times.

Fleming’s online ordering process

To order online, go to the Fleming website, select your location, and press the order button at the top right of the site. From there, you can choose whether you want to order pickup/curbside, delivery, or catering. For pickup/curbside, the system will ask you to re-select the location you will be ordering from and the time you will arrive for pickup/curbside. After that, you can check the menu and order the items you want. Then you can go to your shopping cart to pay for your order. As for delivery, Fleming’s has a list of all providers, so select your preferred delivery service. Then it will take you to the suppliers and you can order directly from them. Finally, catering requires you to enter your address and purchase a minimum of $100 worth of food, delivered to your location. Fleming will deliver it himself.

Conclusion

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar is an incredibly favorable choice when it comes to picking a spot for a great night out. It’s consistent. That’s the beauty of chain restaurants. They never fail. They simply are. You can not be wrong. It’s not perfect, but it’s certainly not bad either. I would have liked to see more featured starters, but the seasonal menu is a nice touch and well appreciated. Also check out our list of the best steaks in Austin.
