Atlanta restaurants: Bastone mozzarella and wine bar opens in former Bocado space on Howell Mill Road

After opening his second Italian restaurant Grana in Piedmont Heights last year and overseeing a renovation that added a patio to his Italian restaurant Decatur the White Bull, chef Pat Pascarella is now set to open Bastone mozzarella bar. in the old Bocado space later this year.

Bocado closed in March after 12 years at its Howell Mill Road location. The reason for the closure was not provided.

According to the website, Bastone’s menu focuses on imported mozzarella and cheeses and the handmade pasta that Pascarella is known for, accompanied by wine and cocktails. Other reports from the AJC Pascarella says also plans to serve a variety of Italian salumi on the menu. The restaurant will accommodate a total of 150 people between the dining room, the bar and the patio.

Pascarella has not yet responded to Eater’s requests for comment and details on Bastone.

Last March, the chef opened Grana just at the start of the pandemic-related closures in Georgia and ran the restaurant as a take-out operation until last summer, when he reopened the rooftop terrace. and finally the dining room to a limited number of customers. Now fully reopened for restaurant service, Grana continues to serve Neapolitan-style pizzas, a selection of meatballs and Pascarella pasta.

Pascarella opened the White Bull just off Decatur Square in 2018. The menu consists of around 16 courses, four of which are dedicated to pasta made from flour milled on site. The restaurant takes its name from the American novelist Ernest Hemingway who referred to the challenges of conquering the blank page by writing under the name “white bull”.

In April 2020, Pascarella briefly closed the White Bull to renovate the kitchen and modernize some equipment, add picture windows to the front, and create a rear patio to expand outdoor seating. A retail section has also been added to the front of the White Bull selling the restaurant’s pasta, sauces and meatballs.
